Most important, a massive congratulations goes to Mary Beth and J-Mac Stillwell one the birth of their 3rd child. J-Mac left the field of play and headed directly to the hospital with the mother to be. Word came midway through the night game that a healthy baby boy had arrived.

Matriwiffle, the Summer Classic of 07, Wifftober I, these are the epics of LowBall lore. These are the games that transcended the elements into a space typically reserved for the dreams of would be wifflers. Well you can add the Night Opener at the Confines to that incredible list. With a Hot Dog cart, a mid game departure for the birth of a new wiffler, the first game under lights (real lights), homeruns there, homeruns here, and intense staredowns, arguments, shit talking, and Sky Gale, this game earned its spot amongst the greats.

Let's start with the field. The gates to the Friendly Confines once again opened following a near 2 year closing. The atmosphere was electric with fans sprinting to the hot dog cart between innings intent of not missing a second of action. With the property dispute with the ruminants settled, field owner El Guapo was authorized to make long awaited upgrades. The results of his hardwork and vision are nothing less than breathtaking, a venue worthy of the passion and grace that El Guapo has long brought to the fields of LowBall. The field leaves you filling snuggedly contained in a womb of wiffle, complete with the dominating Vermonster wall in leftfield and a tremendous backstop.

I am going to leave the recap of the first game to one of my esteemed colleagues.

Is there anything more beautiful than a group of grown men playing a hardnosed game of wiffle at 2 in the morning. I will answer that for you, no, absolutely nothing compares. The second game of the doubleheader was a nail biter that went deep into the wee hours of morning. Hot Rod and El Guap started on the mound for their respective teams. While the Guap held his own, Hot Rod started to go into a meltdown. This was black cloud type stuff, fueled by his continuing battle with the commissioner. Being the clever and talented veteran, the Commish was wisely being highly selective with his swings. HR recovered after a mini tantrum, but not before the damage was done.

In the end, at 2:18 in the morning, the Loggers emerge the victors, powered by the Player of the Game, El Guapo. Steve Two Prong Atocha emerged as a defensive force snaggling everything in sight. Hot Rod Beck continues to struggle, briefly lapsing into black cloud mode.

It was truly a Field of Dreams. Guapo deserves every bit of credit for making his (and everyone else's) dreams come true. It was absolutely fitting that he cranked that Granny in the bot. 9th. Truth is -- That was a great fucking pitch, and I'd throw it again any day. Good work Guap! You da Man!
